Contract for Sale of Chametz

Note: Since during Passover it is forbidden for Jews to own or possess chametz (food not acceptable during Passover, or materials containing such unacceptable food) these foods/items should be destroyed or given away before the holiday begins.

Should this be impossible, the chametz may be stored in such a way that we are sure not to use it during the holiday. The storage area should be locked or taped shut for the duration of the holiday. Its actual ownership is transferred to a non-Jew until the holiday ends.

I, the undersigned, fully empower and permit Rabbi Joshua B. Cohen to act in my behalf to sell all chametz possessed by me—knowingly or unknowingly—as defined by Torah and rabbinic law, and to lease all places wherein chametz owned may be found. This transaction will be in effect for the duration of Pesach, which this year begins with sundown of Monday night, April 18, 2011 and runs through Tuesday night, April 26, 2011.

Chametz may be consumed after 8:40PM on April 26, 2011.

Chametz must be sold (this form must be filled out and submitted to Rabbi Cohen) by Monday, April 18, 2011 at 10:00AM.

And to this I hereby affix my signature below.

Please note: All dates and times above are given as local times in Franklin Lakes, NJ, USA.

It is customary to make a small donation to mark this business transaction.

After reading the above please fill out this contract for the sale of chametz.
