SELLING YOUR CHAMETZ
What is chametz?
Chametz refers to leavened products.
Background Information
Since it is prohibited for a Jews to own or possess chametz on Passover, any chametz not consumed, burned, or otherwise disposed of prior to Passover must be sold to a non-Jew, who will own it during Pesach. In order to insure compliance with the details of the law, we appoint a rabbi as our agent for the sale so that it may be carried out properly. The sale of chametz commences on Monday morning, April 18, 2011 by 11:00AM and is bought back on the evening after Pesach ends on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 after 8:40PM.
A representative of each household should contact Rabbi Cohen to authorize the sale of the chametz in their family’s possession.
There are two ways to legally effect this transaction:
1) In person at the temple with Rabbi Cohen
2) Fill out this online contract for chametz sale. It is customary to make a donation at the time of the transaction.
For more details regarding chametz, please see the inserted pages from the Rabbinical Assembly.
Please feel free to contact Rabbi Cohen with any question.
